Alessandro Salvio (1570-1640)

Small biography

    Alessandro Salvio was born in Naples in 1570 and died in 1640. It belonged to a rich family who allowed to study and to obtain the doctor title him. His Car brother it, was a good poet who dedicated some verses to him. Champion of the world between 1598 and 1621 is considered.

    In 1595 he fought himself with a old Paolo Boi, to which he won. He frequented the napolitana academy of chess in house of Constanzo Carafa, where he made several exhibitions of games to the blind person. Thanks to these feats entered the service of the count of Benavente, the Marquess of Corleto, count Francisco de Castro, the count of Lemos, and even of the Pope of Rome. In 1604 it dedicated to Flucio de Constanza, Marquess of Corleto, his "Treaty of the liberal invention of the game of the chess", Naples 1604. Also it wrote, in 1612 the Saccaide, a peculiar verse tragedy. Also I dedicate its pen to write biographies of the great players of its time: Leonardo and Paolo Boi.

    Of him she is one of the lines of the gambito of King, well-known like gambito Salvio.

    He was a great publishing connoisseur and of the theory of the chess, and also of many openings, that learned studying the games of its predecessors. Their books were very popular until end of century XVIII.
